My personal interest has always been the shared, cathartic experience theater offers a community. Influences for this work stem from David Diamond’s Theater for the Living, and Augusto Boal’s Theater of the Oppressed.
I have explored utilizing the stage for direct ethnographic storytelling to discuss societal issues, instigating felt experience around concepts including- Disconnection, Involuntary Waste, Local Food Systems, and Hydraulic Fracking.
I also believe shared catharsis and motives of social change precipitate from the magic of fables and fiction, as it is the land of make-believe that historically had the great ability to illicit imagery otherwise unseen. Spaces transformed by creative narrative has the immense propulsive power to stoke emotional-connection in ways the rational mind has difficulty accessing.
